ORLANDO, Fla. – During the third week of March, the greatest players in golf will tee off at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.

Around the world, the name Arnold Palmer is synonymous with golf, but in Central Florida, for many families, the legendary name also means lifesaver.

The Arnold Palmer Medical Center is the largest facility dedicated to women and children in the United States it's located in downtown Orlando.

The hospitals, which specialize in treating women and children, save thousands of lives every year, from the tiniest premature infants weighing just a pound to children and teens battling cancer.  And the emergency room at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is the only level one trauma center in Central Florida.

All of the money raised at the upcoming tournament at Bay Hill goes to the hospitals, ensuring that anyone who walks through the doors will be treated.

"All of this goes to one of the most important things in my life and that's the hospitals," said Arnold Palmer when he spoke with Local 6's David Pingalore.

"Mr. Palmer is the king of hearts because what he has done for our babies, and their -- our -- children and their families cannot be measured by words," said Dr. Gregor Alexander, a neonatologist at Winnie Palmer Hospital.

You can see more of Pingalore's interview with Palmer, as well as many in-depth stories recounting the lives saved by the hospital's teams of doctors and nurses, on Local 6.  "Arnie's March: The Tournament, The Hospitals, The Legend" airs at 9 p.m. Tuesday.

"NCIS: Los Angeles" will air Wednesday at 3:10 a.m.
