2 seriously injured, several others hurt in Orlando crash

ORLANDO, Fla. - A 22-year-old man was arrested Sunday night in a street-racing crash that injured several people on Orlando International Airport property, according to authorities.

Orlando police arrested Ronald Lastra in the crash, which happened around 3 a.m. Sunday on Wetherbee Road.  Lastra faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident and participating in an unlawful race.

According to police, Lastra drove his black Mitsubishi into a crowd of bystanders and stopped cars.

"He was going like 120 mph," said witness Jean Sanchez, one of about 50 people who were watching the race.  "He was racing somebody, he came around, went super fast went down here and hit a whole bunch of people."

Orlando police said Lastra hit at least five other cars, and two onlookers were seriously hurt.  According to police, Lastra got out of his car after the crash, looked at the injured, and then fled the scene.

Police told Local 6 that dozens of others, including those with injuries, also fled the scene.  Several of them later showed up at area hospitals, police said.

Details about all the injuries were not known.
