FAMU to host president search forum in Orlando

School will also set up web site to track progress

ORLANDO, Fla. – FAMU plans to host two focus groups -- including one in Orlando -- to get public input on its search for a new president.

The school announced Wednesday it wanted current students, faculty, alumni and other supporters to weigh in on the selection process.

"We believe that it is important to hear from our supporters...about the qualities they seek in a new leader for FAMU," said FAMU Trustee Karl White, chair of the FAMU Presidential Search Committee. "We will use this information to help develop the presidential search criteria."

Former FAMU president James Ammons resigned in July -- seven months after drum major Robert Champion died as a result of hazing following the Florida Classic.

FAMU leaders will host a town hall-style meeting in Tallahassee on October 11 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the FAMU Grand Ballroom. The school plans to hold a second forum on October 27 from 10 a.m. to noon at the FAMU College of Law building in Orlando.

The school will also set up a web site to keep supporters updated on the process of choosing a new president. The online tool will be activated on October 6, according to school leaders.
