O'Mara speaks at gun conference, skips Zimmerman talk

George Zimmerman's attorney refuses to talk about case

ORLANDO, Fla. - At the Gun Rights Policy conference in Orlando attendees were hoping to hear George Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, speak about the case but O'Mara would not.

O'Mara told Local 6 if he wasnt representing Zimmerman, he probably would not be speaking at the gun rights conference.

O'Mara did address the Stand Your Ground statute and the controversy around it.

"If you have a gun and you believe bodily injury, the statute would allow you to use deadly force with out retreat, but most people would retreat. The fear was that people were going to have this cowboy mentality and people were going to memorize statute before this one traumatic event and say I am ready to not retreat. That wasn't the purpose of the statute," O'Mara said.

O'Mara told Local 6 he was criticized for saying the George Zimmerman case was not a stand your ground hearing.

O'Mara said he based his facts on a self defense immunity hearing.
