Gator hit by car near school

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orange County deputies responded to Hunters Creek Middle School in Orlando early Sunday morning after callers reported an alligator in the road near the school.

Carlos Albizu was driving in the area when he noticed several cars had stopped near the alligator.  Albizu says when he got out he noticed the animal was injured so he pulled it off of the road to make sure it did not get any additional injuries.

Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Lt. Paul Hopkins says when deputies arrived they recognized that the animal had been hit by a car and was critically injured.

Lt. Hopkins say the the injuries to the four foot long alligator were so severe that the decision was made to euthanize the animal and safely remove it from the scene.
