ORLANDO, Fla. – Across the nation and in Central Florida, thousands of people gathered to remember Trayvon Martin, a week after a Sanford jury found George Zimmerman not guilty of murdering the 17 year old.
Hundreds of people gathered in front of the George C. Young Federal Building and Courthouse in Downtown Orlando at noon.
"They're here just like I am," said Rachel Ciccateri. "We're all here to say we don't want this happening anymore. We don't want our children murdered."
Many were wearing hoodies and holding skittles.
Reverend Al Sharpton and the National Action Network are urging the justice department to investigate whether Zimmerman committed a hate crime, despite jurors acquitting him of second-degree murder.
"The judge made a very strong error when she said we couldn't bring up racial profiling, that's why it happened," said Tim Adams, Vice President of the National Action Network's Orange County Chapter.
About a hundred people marched from Crooms Academy of Information Technology to the Sanford Police Department.
A prayer vigil that began outside the Missionary Baptist Church was moved inside to the fellowship hall due to Saturday's rain. For a lot of people, it was the last stop for what they considered a busy day for them.
