City Commissioner hits biker in Leesburg

LEESBURG, Fla. – Leesburg police are investigating a crash that left a motorcycle rider in critical condition Sunday.

Police said they were called to U.S. Highway 441 and Fern Drive on Sunday morning after a report that a truck collided with a biker.

Police said 45-year-old Leesburg City Commissioner Truman Hurley was driving a pickup truck south on 441 when he attempted to make a right turn into the Gator Harley-Davidson.

Police said Hurley struck the motorcyclist in the road as the bike turned in front of him.

Police said the motorcycle rider was flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center and was undergoing surgery Sunday night.

Police said Hurley was not injured in the crash, but so far, no charges have been filed, pending the investigation.
