Sanford woman arrested after child dug through trash, police say

Woman's children placed in protective custody

SANFORD, Fla. - A woman has been arrested in Sanford after police say her child was seen digging through a public trash can.

Jessica Flores was arrested on charges of child neglect and resisting an officer Saturday.

According to police, Flores' daughter was seen outside of a Sunoco gas station digging through a trash can with dried peanut butter in her hair at 5 a.m.

Officers say that when they arrived at the Value Place Hotel room located at 2727 S. Orlando Dr. where the family lives, there was rotting food and clothes everywhere. Flores claimed that the children must have left while she was sleeping, officer say.

Flores' children were placed under protective custody when she was arrested.
