Skeletal remains found in woods in Brevard County

Melbourne police investigate discovery

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Skeletal remains were found Sunday morning in a wooded area in Brevard County by a person heading to pick berries, police said.

Melbourne police said the remains, which appear to be a male, were found in the woods behind 3999 South Babcock Street, the location of Southern Construction and Design, a former business that has been closed for several years.  Palm Bay High School is located nearby.

Police continue to work on identifying the remains.  There were no obvious signs of trauma, according to Melbourne police, who said clothing found nearby may provide clues in the case.

The remains were not buried, and foul play is not suspected at this time.
