UCF football adds Ohio State, possibly Oklahoma to 2012 schedule

Knights in discussion to play home and home series with Sooners

ORLANDO, Fla. - The breaking news continues to pour in for the UCF football program.

After weeks of speculation that UCF is headed to the Big East conference, potentially by 2013, it now appears that the Knights have made a significant upgrade to their schedule in 2012.

Last week, it was reported that the Knights have a received a verbal commitment to play Ohio State in Columbus next season. The Buckeyes are apparently replacing the Pittsburgh game, who asked to buy out of the contract. That game is set for Sept. 8.

Now, UCF is in talks of adding another national powerhouse to their non-conference slate -- the Big 12's Oklahoma Sooners.

According to reports from UCFSports.com, UCF is in discussions to play two games with the Sooners, starting with the Knights hosting Oklahoma in Orlando next year. This game would replace the opening potentially left by Kansas State, who intends on backing out if the Big 12 keeps a nine-game conference schedule in 2012. The Knights would then travel to Norman to play Oklanhoma on their own home turf in a subsequent season.

Oklahoma would be the second Big 12 school to play at Bright House Networks Stadium after the Texas Longhorns played UCF in the stadium's first ever game in 2007.

While nothing is set in stone, a matchup with Ohio State and Oklahoma in 2012 would be a huge boost to the normally not-so-strong UCF non-conference schedule and provide an exciting home game for Knights fans.
