Video released in attempted rape at college

Daytona Beach police search for man

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Authorities on Wednesday released surveillance video of a man suspected in an attempted rape at Daytona State College.

The attack occurred around 3 p.m. Thursday when the man went into the photography department bathroom at the college, located off International Speedway Boulevard in Daytona Beach.

The video was captured at a nearby parking garage.

According to police, the man pushed in one of the stall doors as the woman was leaving and put his hand over her mouth. The woman was able to fight off the man, and he ran away, police said.

The man was described as 20 to 25 years old, about 6 feet tall with a shaved head.  Police said he had a lazy left eye and was wearing an orange and tan T-shirt and tan shorts.

Female students said they still feel uneasy after the attack and the lack of arrest.

"A girls bathroom is the only place a girl can go without being harassed and then you get harassed, it's crazy," said student Alexis Garcia.

Students said they wanted more cameras to be put around school buildings.

"We wouldn't need a sketch, we would have an actual ID of him and we would be certain of who he is and what he looks like but we're not," said student Gabriel Meeks.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for the identification and arrest of the man.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Daytona Beach police.
