Longwood teen finds burglar in living room armed with shotgun

Deputies: Burglar sees 16-year-old boy before fleeing in red car

LONGWOOD, Fla. – Deputies are on the lookout for a man who burglarized a home in unincorporated Longwood armed with a shotgun in hand, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived around 7:50 a.m. Monday at the home on Charles Street about a burglary in progress.

The 16-year-old victim, Grayson Belcher told deputies the burglar who kicked in the front door of the home was carrying a shotgun.

"When I heard the banging sound, I immediately opened my door and kind of rushed around here like this," said Belcher. "I noticed a figure there and it was a man, and he was armed and ready for what's to come next. He looked at me and I looked at him, and I got scared and shut my door and he immediately bolted."

Belcher went back into his room for a second and then came out to see the man drive off in a red car. The car appeared to have three seats in the back and two in the front. Belcher told deputies the car appeared to have a yellowish-green tint on the windows as well.

A neighbor told deputies her husband saw a newer model red Mazda 6 parked at the dead end of Charles Street when he left work that morning.

So did Belcher's mother, Melissa Belcher, who said, "As I'm leaving, I did notice that there was some kind of strange vehicle at the end of the street."

Grayson Belcher's brothers and sister did not witness anything but were home during the time of the incident. Deputies said Melissa Belcher was at work at the time but responded when her children called.

"He absolutely saved my other children and he was a leader, and I couldn't be more proud of him," said Melissa Belcher about her son. "I know what my son saw cannot be erased from his mind."

Deputies said the man, described as black, wore black gloves and a green T-shirt. Grayson Belcher provided deputies with a composite sketch of the burglar.

Anyone with information about this incident or knows the man in the sketch is asked to call the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.
