Lost wedding ring found at Lake Eola Park

Gold wedding band sitting on top of rubber matting in play area

ORLANDO, Fla. – A lost wedding ring is now at the center of a big game of lost and found.

Lyla Kimmelton, 5, told News 6 she found the shiny object while playing at Lake Eola Park on Thursday.

"We were at the swings, and all of a sudden she stopped and started staring at something," said Ana Oropeza-Kimmelton, Lyla's step-mother. "I was like, 'What's going on? What are you looking at?' She said 'something.'"

That something turned out to be a gold wedding band sitting on top of the rubber matting in the play area.

Oropeza-Kimmelton said they looked around to see if anyone could have lost it.

"There is one family sitting here, and I looked at the guy, and he had a wedding band on. So I knew that it wasn't him," she said. "I didn't want to ask, 'Hey, did you lose a gold ring?'"

Oropeza-Kimmelton and Lyla decided to turn to social media to get results and to help solve their mystery. They posted a picture on Facebook, describing part of the inscription on the ring: a wedding date of "10-31-1981."

Oropeza-Kimmelton hopes Lyla learns that just because you find something, doesn't mean it's yours -- and giving something back can be just as rewarding.

"We have your ring, and if you want it back we will give it back," Lyla said.

Oropeza-Kimmelton said there is a name engraved inside the ring, as well. If the owner comes forward, they will need to know the name.
