SOUTH PORTLAND, ME - Naughty or nice?  Naughty, apparently.

A mall in Maine has fired Santa Claus after some children and parents complained that he was rude and grumpy and wouldn't allow a child sit on his lap.

Officials at the Maine Mall in South Portland say they're now looking for a jollier Saint Nick and hope to have him in place on Thursday.

According to WGME-TV , Jessica Mailhiot and her 6-year-old daughter, Chantel, went to see Santa this week. According to the station, Mailhiot said Santa was rude and even refused to let the girl sit on his lap when they said they didn't want to buy a $20 photo.

The 6-year-old girl says when she asked Santa for an American Girl doll, he replied she would get an "American football" instead.

When Chantel's mother posted their story online about the rude encounter, other parents shared similar experiences.

The station contacted Santa, but he did not want to comment.
