Man accused of embezzling thousands from Clermont golf academy

Gilchrist Golf Academy founder noticed suspicious financial activity

CLERMONT, Fla. – A man is accused of embezzling more than $70,000 from the golf academy where he worked, according to the Clermont Police Department.

Robert Aaron Lury was arrested Oct. 22 after a five-month investigation into his financial activities at Gilchrist Golf Academy, a news release said.

Gilchrist Golf Academy founder Gary Gilchrist was the first to notice suspicious activity in his company's financial records.

Police said the investigation found that Lury made large wire transfers into his family accounts, initiated an unauthorized salary increase for himself, manipulated accounts, gave himself fraudulent commissions and bonuses and took petty cash between October 2016 and May 2017.

Gilchrist Golf Academy suffered a $72,567.30 loss as a result of Lury's actions, a news release said.

Lury was arrested in Seminole County on charges of scheming to defraud, uttering a forged check, fraudulent use of a credit card and grand theft. He has since posted his $26,000 bond and has been released from jail.
