Sanel Saint Simon charged in death of Alexandria Cherry

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man accused of killing a 16-year-old girl and dumping her body in the woods is expected in court Thursday amid the death penalty debate surrounding Orange-Osceola State Attorney Aramis Ayala.

Sanel Saint Simon was charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend's daughter, Alexandria Cherry, in 2014.

His case is one of nearly two dozen recently reassigned by Gov. Rick Scott after Ayala revealed that she was not going to seek the death penalty in any of the cases her office was handling.

State Attorney Brad King will now prosecute the case.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Thursday morning.
