Man accused of shooting Brevard deputy released from jail

John DeRossett posts $450,000 bond

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man accused of shooting a Brevard County sheriff's deputy bonded out of jail Monday morning.

John DeRossett, 65, posted a $450,000 bond and greeted loved ones outside the Orange County Jail upon his release.

He's accused of shooting Agent John Casey Smith during a prostitution bust in August. Smith was critically injured in the shooting.

DeRossett was arrested on attempted murder charges.  If convicted, he faces life in prison.

He did not speak to media members as he walked to a vehicle.

DeRossett's niece, Mary DeRossett, 42, pleaded no contest to prostitution and resisting arrest charges and will spend 180 days in jail.
