Man asks for money, steals 80-year-old's wallet, Orange County deputies say

Deputies search for culprit in Publix theft

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Orange County deputies are searching for the thief who they say stole an elderly man's wallet outside of Publix who was giving him the dollar he asked for.

Deputies said the 80-year-old victim was leaving the Publix on Chickasaw Trail when the thief walked up and asked him for a dollar for gas.

When the victim reached for his wallet, the thief snatched it and ran away, according to the report.

Israel and Wanda Quinones shop at the Publix every week and say they often get asked for money and would often give.

"You try to give to people and you get robbed. It makes you very leery about giving to anyone else, its sad the world has come to this," Wanda Quinones said.

Now Wanda says her guard is up.

"I think I would think twice now because of that definitely," she added. "I do want to give but I'll try to be cautious and careful."

The man is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall between 18 and 20 years old and wearing a white polo shirt with yellow and red stripes and dark pants.

Contact deputies if you have any information on the culprit.
