DELTONA, Fla. - Volusia County deputies arrested a man after they say he broke into a couple's home in Deltona and hit one of the victims with a hammer.

Christopher George, 40, has been charged with armed burglary, aggravated battery on a person 65 years old or older, grand theft, criminal mischief and resisting an officer without violence.

Deputies said the couple returned to their home on Bonview Avenue on Monday morning and noticed a bicycle resting against the front door, with the door busted open. When the couple went inside, they found George in the bedroom holding a hammer in one hand and a bag in the other, according to the report.

George then attacked the 67-year-old victim and hit him multiple times with the hammer, deputies said. He then rode his bicycle away but was found shortly after in woods nearby.

The victim was not seriously injured, police said.
