Man busted in Sanford with candy-like fentanyl, marijuana, police say

Floyd Aikens arrested on drug charges

SANFORD, Fla. – A man was arrested on drug charges Monday in Sanford after police say they found 435 grams of suspected cannabis and about 24 grams of suspected fentanyl that resembled children’s vitamins or candy.

"It is something that we have seen a lot more of," said Ronny Neal, Public Information Officer with Sanford Police Department.

Floyd Aikens, who had an active arrest warrant in Seminole County, was arrested on charges of trafficking in fentanyl, possession of cannabis with intent to sell and possession of hydrocodone.

"What makes it look so dangerous is it looks like candy and that's one of the reasons why within this specific arrest that there was a presumptive test that was done in order to indicate what it was," said Neal.

Investigators said they saw Aikens driving on Bob Thomas Circle and learned about his active warrant for a violation of probation. A traffic stop was conducted, and police said officers noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.Sanford police said officers were conducting surveillance in the Academy Manor community after receiving several citizen complaints about drug activity.

They didn't want to go on camera with many of them told News 6 they stay to themselves and don't venture outside too often.

A woman who has lived along Bob Thomas Circle since the 1970's says drugs in the area have gotten bad.

She has called police on several occasions to express her concerns.

Aikens had his first court appearance Tuesday.

His bond was set for $100,000 for trafficking fentenyl, $2,000 for possession of a controlled substance, $2,000 for driving with a suspended license, $15,000 for possession of marijuana with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver and no bond for violation of parole.

He has a court hearing set for January 9th, 2018.
