DELTONA, Fla. - A man was carjacked at gunpoint Thursday morning outside a home in Deltona, deputies said.
The carjacking was reported at 5:52 a.m. in the 700 block of Merrimac Street.
Volusia County sheriff's deputies said the victim was picking up a coworker when two unknown men pulled up in a gray car that has front-end damage.
One of the culprits got out of the gray car, which the victim said had a loose bumper, and pointed a gun at the victim and his coworker before stealing the man's red 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, deputies said.
The victim and his coworker were not injured.
No arrests have been made.
One neighbor said he heard tires squealing outside, but didn't think anything of it until he saw police cars on the street.
"Truthfully, I wish I came out and maybe got a tag number, but you know, I was just laying bed ... Somebody got caught doing something and just hauled (expletive) and got out of here," John Hatt said.
He said he's lived in his home for 22 years and has never been the victim of any crime. He speculated that Thursday's carjacking was likely an isolated incident.
"I'm not really worried about it. Probably was just some drug guy looking for a quick score," Hatt said.
Neighbor Perfecto Fontanez agreed that it's hard to believe something like this happened in such a quiet neighborhood.
"It's a nice neighborhood, old people. Everybody is retired, a couple of empty houses, so nothing ever happens here," Perfecto Fontanez said.
