Man carjacked at KFC, shot 10 miles away in Orlando

Victim in stable condition; police search for couple

ORLANDO, Fla. - Police on Thursday continue to search for a couple who carjacked a man outside a KFC in Casselberry before shooting him twice at an Orlando apartment complex about 10 miles away.

Juan Uribe, 19, told Orlando police he was carjacked Wednesday night outside the KFC at State Road 436 and U.S. 17-92 in Casselberry.  Police initially said that the victim was in his 30s.

The assailants were only described as a man in his 20s and a woman in her late teens.

Uribe said he was at the KFC when a woman opened the front door of his silver, four-door 2011 Toyota Camry and asked for a ride, according to police.  Uribe declined, but a man carrying a gun entered the back seat of Uribe's car while the woman got into the front seat, police said.

Uribe said the couple forced him to drive to the Royal Isle apartment complex off S.R. 436 near State Road 408 and he was robbed of his wallet and phone, according to police.  After handing the items over, the gunman shot Uribe twice, in his upper right arm and chest, police said.

Uribe was able to seek help at a nearby apartment, and the couple fled in the Toyota, which is registered to the Uribe's father, according to police.

Uribe was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and was listed in stable condition.

It's not known why the couple forced Uribe to drive to that particular apartment complex.

Several neighbors told Local 6 that news of the shooting put them on high alert.

"I didn't hear anything.  It was very quiet.  There (were) no noises," said Sherry Quintana. "That's what's strange, because they said there were two shots.  It's very scary and too close for comfort."
