LAKE CITY, Fla. - A north Florida man died after a deputy shocked him with a stun gun, according to officials.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office said 35-year-old Timothy Griffis died Sunday after deputies responded to reports of a man lurking in an elderly woman's backyard in Lake City.

Deputy Bradley Carpenter said he arrived at the house and found Griffis hiding in a shed.

Officials said Griffis signaled that he had a gun and threatened Carpenter.

The Sheriff's Office said Griffis made an "aggressive movement" toward Carpenter, who fired his stun gun at him.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the death, and Carpenter has been placed on paid administrative leave.
