SANFORD, Fla. – A man was found shot early Wednesday in the parking lot of a Sanford bank after leaving a nearby bar, and police continue to search for the gunman, officials said.

The 34-year-old man, who was shot in the leg, was discovered at the Wells Fargo branch on East First Street at Park Avenue, south of Lake Monroe.

The victim was taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital and is expected to survive, police said.

Sanford police said the man left The Wet Spot bar at 112 Park Ave, just before 2 a.m. As he crossed the street and entered a nearby parking lot, a man approached and pointed a handgun at him while demanding his jewelry, police said.

The victim was transported to Central Florida Regional Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries, and has since been released.

An investigation is continuing.
