KISSIMMEE, Fla. - A Kissimmee man was arrested on Wednesday night after police say he was impersonating a police officer to get rent money owed to his father.

Abdiel Mendez, 32, has been charged with falsely impersonating a police officer and possession of a concealed weapon during a felony.
Police said Mendez knocked on the door of a man's apartment at the Chelsea Square complex Wednesday at 9:15 p.m. wearing a black suit, radio ear piece and displaying a gold badge.
The victim let Mendez into his apartment, believing he was an officer, and asked to see his credentials once Mendez began acting suspicious, according to the report.
Mendez then displayed a handgun, police said, and the victim told Mendez he was calling the police.
Police found Mendez fleeing the complex.
Mendez told officers he went to the victim's residence to collect rent money that was owed to his father, according to police.
Mendez was transported to the Osceola County Jail where he is being held on $3,500 bond.
The apartment was a privately owned unit and not managed by the apartment complex community, police said.
