Florida Highway Patrol investigate crash involving Dodge Charger, big rig

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - A 38-year-old Leesburg man was killed and a woman and child were critically injured Monday morning in a Lake County crash, troopers said.

The crash happened around 8:50 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 455 and State Road 19.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, George Stevens, the 63-year-old driver of the big rig, turned into the path of the Dodge Charger, which was carrying three people, all of Leesburg,  The car then struck the trailer, troopers said.

The man driving the Charger was killed in the crash, and the woman and 5-year-old child  were injured, troopers said.  The woman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, and the boy was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The FHP continues to investigate.
