Skateboarder killed on busy Osceola roadway, FHP says

24-year-old Florida man pronounced dead at scene

OSEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A 24-year-old Florida man was killed Sunday night while skateboarding or carrying a skateboard along an Osceola County road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Matthew Mitchell, of St. Petersburg, died in the crash, which was reported at 7 p.m. on U.S. Highway 192 near Pine Grove Road.

The FHP said Mitchell traveled into the path of a Ford SUV. Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.

Troopers said after the SUV struck Mitchell, it overturned. The driver of the SUV, however, did not suffer any injuries, the FHP said.

Witnesses told News 6 that Mitchell was half on the concrete median and half on the shoulder, about to cross the street, when the SUV struck him.
