Owner sought after wedding band found on Brevard beach

Ring found near shoreline of Cherie Down Park

CAPE CAVAVERAL, Fla. – Dave Mollison said it's his hobby to go to the beach with his metal detector and find random things in the sand, and one day he found a wedding ring in a foot of water.

Mollison hits the beach three to four times a week, searching for buried treasure, making his round up and down the shoreline near Cherie Down Park.

"You never know what you're going to pull up," Mollison said. "I do this a lot. I go on out, and it's relaxing for me to walk on the beach."

One afternoon on his regular hunt he scooped up a gold wedding band.

"It's not the first one I've found and tried to return to people, but this one I haven't had any luck," Mollison said.

Mollison said he's been doing this for nearly eight years and has found hundreds of rings, but this one is different.

"They would have celebrated their 23 anniversary two days ago, so it would be really nice if we could get this ring back to them," Mollison said.

The ring has the words "Love Kimberly" engraved inside, along with the date 8-21-93.

Now every time Mollison goes to the beach he puts up a sign on the back of his truck telling Kimberly he found her ring, hoping to find her.

"This is a family park. I don't think a lot of vacationers come here much," Mollison said. "I thought it was a good possibility that it's somebody local right here."

Mollison's even gone to the Brevard County Courthouse to match the ring with a marriage license but hasn't had any luck. He said he's found a couple of Kimberlys, but none that match the date in the ring.

"Its a bond between two people, and you know, when you lose something that signifies that bond, people say, you know, should I go buy another one? But it's not going to mean the same as the original one," Mollison said.

Mollison said he'll hold onto the ring until he finds the rightful owner.
