LEESBURG, Fla. - A 36-year-old man was shot and killed in a Leesburg home invasion while a 4-year-old slept nearby, according to police.

Jeffrey W. Brown was shot at least once in the robbery attempt, which occurred around 4:40 a.m. at the Villa Maison Apartments on South 9th Street, Leesburg police said.

According to police, a woman said two men wearing dark clothing entered the home and tried to rob her and Brown.  During the incident, Brown was shot in the torso and died before emergency officials arrived, police said.

The child was sleeping on a couch in another room and did not see or hear anything, police said.

No other details have been released.
