Man tried to lure boy into van with candy, toys, Flagler County deputies say

Deputies investigate suspicious incident in Palm Coast

PALM COAST, Fla. - Flagler County deputies issued a "stranger danger" alert after they say a man tried to lure a boy into his van by offering toys and candy.

Investigators said the 11-year-old boy was riding his bike on Red Mill Drive in Palm Coast, down the street from Rymfire Elementary School, on Sunday afternoon when he was offered a ride by a stranger driving a black full-sized van.

The boy said the man offered candy and toys if the boy would get into the van. The boy said he then screamed and rode his bike home to report the incident to his mother.

"We are investigating this report, but at this time we have had no other similar reports," said Sheriff James L. Manfre. "However, it is always timely for parents to remind their youngsters to never talk with strangers and report suspicious activities."

The culprit is described as a black man, with shoulder length dreadlocks and wearing a black jacket or long-sleeved shirt with a white undershirt.
