MARION COUNTY, Fla. - K9 Brit from the Marion County Sheriff's K9 Unit, survived a fight with a suspect on Saturday after the suspect hit the dog in the face, according to officials.

A deputy attempted a traffic stop when Freddie Garmon, 24, jumped from the vehicle to elude officers. Officials witnessed Garmon throwing two baggies to the ground, which later tested positive for cocaine.

Brit was released to capture the running suspect. Both the dog and Garmon fell to the ground. Deputies witnessed the suspect hitting K9 Brit in the face and he then escaped.

K9 Brit recaptured the fleeing suspect in the middle of a road and deputies once again witnessed Garmon hitting the dog.

K9 Brit has a gash on his forehead but he has been able to continue working.

Garmon was taken to the Marion County Jail.
