OCALA, Fla. - There is an increase in mosquito-borne disease activity in Marion County, officials say.
The Florida Department of Health in Marion County says a horse in the Sparr area tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis infection, and the risk of transmission to humans has increased.
The Department reminds residents and visitors to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes and to take basic precautions to limit exposure. Here are some basic precautions:
- Drain standing water to stop mosquitoes from multiplying.
- Cover exposed skin with clothing and repellant, and use mosquito netting to protect children younger than two months.
- Cover doors and windows with screens to keep mosquitoes out of your house. Repair any broken screening.
