The person who threw the dog from the roof has been identified as Gautam Sudarshan, and Ashish Paul was the person who recorded it on camera.

The video went viral and people feared that the dog had died, but Dhandapani posted an update Tuesday saying the dog, who has been named Bhadra, was found alive.

Another person also posted about the dog being alive, writing: "She is not able to walk properly. She is with us now. Will be under treatment. What breaks my hear is that she was still wagging her tail," Hotel for Dogs founder Shravan Krishnan wrote.

According to Mashable, the two students were charged for animal cruelty, but were soon released on bail. The incident has put the animal cruelty laws in India into the spotlight, with many people saying punishment is not enough.

"Those criminals have come out on BAIL. This is how 'strong' the animal welfare laws are. With video evidence and so much of public outrage we couldn't remand them even for one day. We are extremely disappointed and it's a 'Black Day' for Animal Welfare in India. However, we will keep fighting and try and get the police to file the charge sheet," Krishnan wrote.
