Mix 105.1, Big Red Bus team up for blood drive after Orlando mass shooting

50 slain at Pulse nightclub

ORLANDO, Fla. – In the wake of the Orlando mass shooting, the community has been outpouring in support.

Mix 105.1 and the Big Red Bus have teamed up to get results and offer one of many places to donate blood Monday.

The new location comes after thousands came out in response to OneBlood's request for O-Negative, O-Positive and A-B Plasma donors, filling OneBlood to full capacity.

The Big Red Bus will start taking donations until 2 p.m. at 1800 Pembrook Drive across the street from RDV Sports Complex.

To donate, you must be at least 16 years old and weigh 110 pounds.

If you're unable to give blood, the  Big Red Bus will be accepting donations of water, sports drinks and orange juice.

You can call OneBlood at 1-888-9Donate or visit their website to sign up and donate at a center this week.

Meanwhile, the University of Central Florida will have a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Student Union and Bright House Networks Stadium.

The need comes after police say at least 50 people were slain at an Orlando nightclub. The shooter was killed in a shootout with police.

In addition to the slayings, at least 53 other victims were taken to area hospitals for medical treatment, police said. There were an estimated 320 people in the club when it opened Saturday night.
