Motorcyclist dragged for quarter-mile in fatal Orange County crash

Charges pending against Sanford man, FHP says

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - A motorcyclist was killed in a crash late Saturday in Orange County, and charges are pending against the 23-year-old Sanford man who turned in front of him, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

James Lorraine, 28, of Orlando, died at the scene of the crash, which was reported around 11:05 p.m. on State Road 50 at State Road 417, the FHP said.

According to the FHP, Christopher Shuman was driving a 2016 Nissan Sentra east on SR 50 when he failed to yield the right-of-way and turned into the path of the motorcycle, which was westbound on SR 50.

The motorcycle hit the rear of the car, ejecting Lorraine, who was then struck by an Infiniti G35 and dragged a quarter of a mile, the FHP said.

No one else was injured in the crash, the FHP said.

The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Charges are pending.
