ORLANDO, Fla. - The Consumer Product Safety Commission today announced the recall of Mr. Coffee Single Cup Brewing Systems, after consumers reported burn injuries.

The recall affects 600,700 brewers sold from September 2010 through August 2012.

The manufacturer, Sunbeam Products/JCS, says a build-up of steam in the water reservoir can force the brewing chamber to open and expel hot coffee grounds and water.  The steam pressure problem has been reported by 162 consumers, including 61 reports of injuries to consumers' face, upper torso, and hands.

The single cup brewing systems were sold by merchandisers nationwide, including Bed Bath & Beyond, Brandsmart, JC Penney, Kmart, Lowe's, Target and Walmart, and online at

CPSC said consumers should stop using the brewing systems immediately.
