Pulse-themed Halloween haunted house shut down

Charleston church shooting recreation was also to be included

CHICAGO – A haunted house display that was set to include recreations of the Pulse nightclub shooting was shut down after a public outcry, according to the Windy City Times.

Fernwood Elementary School in Chicago was to co-host the event Friday and Saturday night until officials at the school found out about the controversial depictions that were planned. A spokesman said Tyrone Tappler Productions "mischaracterized" the nature of the event.

An online ad for the haunted house describes it as a Christian-themed attraction where guests could walk through 10 rooms and watch scenes where actors chose between "sin or salvation."

Full details about what would happen in the Pulse room haven't been released, but Tyrone Tappler Productions posted Aug. 31 on Facebook looking for volunteers to pose as shooting victims.

"Club Pulse, Dancers, Victims … CAGED PEOPLE/SCREAMERS, Extras needed trying to escape a cage! … SOUNDS INTERESTING? COME OUT THIS SATURDAY!!!," the post read, according to the Windy City Times.

The Facebook page has since been deactivated.

Scenes of botched abortions and a recreation of the Charleston church shooting in 2015 were also set to be included in the haunted house.

Tyrone L. Tappler Jr., who is behind Tyrone Tappler Productions, tweeted on Friday that the event had been canceled.

In response to the criticism, Tappler referred to himself as a "trailblazer."

"Global attacks..means global power... Im Getting ready to go global!!," he tweeted on Saturday.
