How Central Florida first responders are going beyond the call of duty

Local law enforcement officers go the extra mile

ORLANDO, Fla. – Each week on News 6 at Nine, News 6 likes to share some good news about Orlando-area first responders.

This week, four local agencies in Central Florida shared heartwarming stories on social media.

In Volusia County, deputies continued offering assistance to victims of Hurricane Michael after they heard a DeLand resident had a family member in Port St. Joe who still needed help. Deputies didn't hesitate to make their way there to help the woman, who posed with them for a picture after the work was finished.

The recovery efforts also continued in Sanford as members of the community, city employees, Seminole County deputies, officers from Winter Springs and Sanford police departments and the mayor collected donated relief items to send to storm victims. They even took time to fill out a huge card filled with positive thoughts to lift spirits in the Panhandle.

Deputies in Osceola County were putting smiles on faces a bit closer to home. A man tweeted a picture of his young son looking ecstatic while sitting outside a grounded Sheriff's Office helicopter with the pilot. The man thanked him for his service and, of course, for showing his son a good time.

Kissimmee police made sure a group of children celebrated Halloween safely by putting on the #BooOnBroadway celebration this weekend. The officers posed for a picture with a group of superheroes and jokingly asked in a tweet, "Who is really protecting who?"
