Isla's View: Peterbrooke Chocolate Camp

Isla and Julie check out the chocolate camp for kids at Peterbrooke Chocolatier

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The locally owned and operated Peterbrooke Chocolatier in Winter Park has been around for years.

The handcrafted European-style chocolate treats are a local favorite; however, the activities Peterbrooke offers to kids over the summer are a good idea for parents who need something fun to do for their children.

The chocolate shop offers day camps on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from June 6 through Aug. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

On Tuesdays, kids paint with chocolate and design a few different pieces to take home.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays, children learn how to make several of the chocolate-dipped fan favorites the store has to offer. Again, they get to keep all the treats they make.

The camps cost $49.50 per day and include lunch, drinks and dessert.

Interested participants are asked to call ahead or email the store to reserve a spot for a child. Click here for the contact information.

News 6 at Nine anchor Julie Broughton recently took her 8-year-old daughter, Isla, to try the camp out. Isla said she thinks the camp is best for kids ages 8 and up. The store management recommends the same, but says exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.

When Broughton asked Isla what she thought about the camp, she said, "I actually really like it."

"What would you tell a kid who says, 'I want to go to chocolate camp?'" asked Broughton.

"You don't want to, you have to," said Isla.
