These Orlando-area law enforcement officers are going the extra mile this holiday season

Troopers, officers celebrate season of giving in Central Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – Each week on News 6 at Nine, News 6 likes to share some good news about Orlando-area first responders.

This week, five local agencies in Central Florida shared pleasant stories -- holiday style -- on social media.

Troopers in the Orlando area kicked off the holiday season by taking part in St. Cloud's annual Christmas parade. The Florida Highway Patrol shared pictures of the celebrations on Twitter and reminded members of the community to keep safety a top priority.

Ocala police shared a story of a father-daughter duo who are truly recognizing the season as one of giving. Officers said they stopped by and donated $500 to go toward an organization that provides toys to children on Christmas, after a Grinch stole the money that was raised. Another man also made a generous donation of $250, helping make even more Christmas miracles possible. Police cheered the donors on for turning a negative into a positive.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood and his deputies in Volusia County are also getting results for children this Christmas by inviting 25 families to a Walmart in DeLand and letting them pick out some of their favorite items. The children looked ecstatic to participate in the annual Shop with a Cop event and, of course, so did the deputies.

Officers in Sanford took part in a similar shopping event with a special family who couldn't make it to the department's annual event over the weekend. The officers took the time to shop with the family at Walmart and let the young girls pick some of the items at the top of their wish lists. What a great memory for both the family and officers to remember this holiday.

A school resource officer at Meadowlane Primary School came through for a kindergarten class that had just made a gingerbread house before its gingerbread men escaped. The officer took missing gingerbread men reports from the students and eventually found the missing cookies playing on the playground and returned them to the classroom in time to save Christmas. The West Melbourne Police Department shared pictures of the fiasco on Facebook.
