ORLANDO, Fla. – Thanks to a News 6 partnership with Univision and Career Source, more than 600 people were helped to find a job through, Operation Maria.
For people like Marya Rodriguez, Thursday's job fair was a chance to help her and her family get back on their feet after moving to Central Florida from Puerto Rico.
Even after the Hurricane Maria hit her island, she and her family didn't plan on leaving their home.
But then her dad's health changed everything.
"Sadly, my dad had a stroke, so that's the reason why we come here," Rodriguez said.
She is one of hundreds of people who are starting over.
She and her family came with resumes ready and employers were eager to hire.
"Them coming here and being able to be given a job, what a great way to start your life over again and I want to participate in that," said Pattie Marron, recruiter with TooJays eatery.
More than 40 employers were on hand to offer jobs.
From Valencia College to Disney World, open positions were everywhere.
"The level of energy and ambition. When you come to think of the trying times that these folks have gone through and to leave it all and come here and start new. It's definitely amazing to see; you know the humbleness that's coming with them," said Alexis Echeverria, manager at Career Source Central Florida.
Each space in the center was filled by extra copiers that were brought in and a computer lab where people could work on their resumes.
"From the bottom of my heart, I am really thankful because that allowed us to move on in this process and improve ourselves," Rodriguez said.
Career Source plans to have as many job fairs as long as there is a need.
