In a strongly worded letter, Attorney General Pam Bondi has asked that O.J. Simpson not be relocated to Florida once he is released on parole.

Bondi wrote a letter to the Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Julie Jones asking that the department refuse to grant Simpson's request to be relocated to Florida upon release from prison.

“Floridians are well aware of Mr. Simpson’s background, his wanton disregard for the lives of others, and of his scofflaw attitude with respect to the heinous acts for which he has been found civilly liable," Bondi wrote. "The specter of his residing in comfort in Florida should not be an option. Our state should not become a country club for this convicted criminal.”

Simpson, 70, was granted parole in July after serving nine years of a 33-year sentence for kidnapping and armed robbery in Las Vegas. He said during that hearing that he would be interested in relocating to Florida once he is released.

Bondi argues that the state of Florida should deny Simpson's request because of his failure to pay the civil judgments entered against him in relation to the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in 1994; the difficulty his notoriety would pose for local authorities; his past criminal activity and "his manifest lack of contrition for his crimes."

If Simpson is granted permission to relocate to the Sunshine State, Bondi asks that his parole contain conditions that he wear an electronic monitoring bracelet; his travel be restricted; he regularly submit to testing to prove he's not using alcohol or drugs; and he report to his parole officer in person rather than through the mail.

Simpson's lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne, told the Associated Press Friday morning that there's "no doubt" Simpson would return to Florida, although he did not name a specific city or region. The former NFL running back is scheduled to be released Sunday.
