Off-duty Seminole County deputy rescues kids from locked car

3-year-old, 4-month-old accidentally locked in car, deputies say

SANFORD, Fla. – A Seminole County deputy is being hailed as a hero for helping save two young children after they were accidentally locked in a car.

[AUDIO: 911 call 1 ]

Investigator Kyle LeGendre was at Old Navy on Ball Boulevard in Sanford on Saturday with his own baby when he saw a couple banging on the window of their Cadillac Escalade.

The 3-year-old was in his car seat and could not reach the lock and a 4-month-old baby was passing out from the heat.

"It was just getting blistering hot out," LeGendre said. "The vehicle was black on black, you can imagine the heat going through it."

LeGendre grabbed a tire iron, smashed the window and pulled the children to safety.

The children are OK.
