OPD names ex-fiance as suspect in missing mom case

ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando police chief Paul Rooney held a news conference to announce a suspect in the disappearance of Michelle Parker.

Rooney named Dale Smith, Michelle Parker's ex-fiance, as the police department's primary suspect

Parker, 33, has been missing since Nov. 17.

Police have said since the beginning that Smith and Parker had a violent history, but had not named his as a suspect until Monday.

"We had to look at every aspect in the case before we could come out publically and state that Mr. Smith is our primary suspect," Rooney said.

Police searched Smith's father's home over the weekend.

Police said there is not a warrant out for Smith's arrest yet, but they hope he comes into the police department to talk to investigators.

Early on in the investigation, Smith declined to take a polygraph test.

Smith and Parker appeared on an episode of "The People's Court" to resolve a dispute over Parker's engagement ring which aired hours before Parker disappeared.

Smith is the father of Parker's 3-year-old twins. She also has an 11-year-old daughter.

Parker's mother Yvonne Smith also spoke Monday evening. She maintained hope that her daughter will be found alive.

Crews have searched for the mother of three throughout Orange County since she disappeared.

A $50,000 reward for Parker's safe return expired Sunday night.
