Orange County murder suspect's mother sentenced for bribery

Mom sentenced to 51 weeks in jail for trying to bribe witnesses in son's trial

ORLANDO, Fla. - The mother of an Orange County man accused of murder was sentenced to a year in jail after she pleaded guilty of trying to bribe victims in her son's case.

Cynthia Ruffin-Sinclair was sentenced to 51 weeks in jail after Sinclair and her son, Bessman Okafor, tried to get witnesses in his home invasion case to stop talking to authorities.

Okafor is accused of killing one of the witnesses, Alex Zaldivar, after the bribe attempts failed. Zaldivar, 19, was killed in the shootings at the home on Bernadino Drive south of Orlando Avenue in Ocoee back in September.

Deputies said Zaldivar and his roommates, Remington Campos 23, and Brienna Campos 20, was set to testify against Okafor before Zaldivar died.

When Zaldivar refused to not testify for a bribe, Okafor killed him, according to prosecutors.

Ruffin-Sinclair was convicted of witness tampering. Okafor still faces murder charges.
