Orlando Eye reopens Friday afternoon

Technical issue prompts officials to close giant observation wheel

ORLANDO, Fla. – The brand new Orlando Eye reopened Friday afternoon after being shut down this week because of technical issues.

A representative for the 400-foot observation wheel, which opened earlier this month, says the Eye was closed after the operating system detected an irregularity. Officials would not elaborate on the problem but said they stopped the ride as a precaution.

The Orlando Eye reopened after 6 p.m. Friday.

"As with all of our attractions, the safety of our guests and employees is our top priority," the Orlando Eye team said in a statement.

Riders whom Local 6 spoke with said they were given a full refund.

Tickets for the Orlando Eye range from $18-$32.

The Orlando Eye is typically open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
