Orlando man arrested after shootout with neighbor, police say

ORLANDO, Fla. – Two neighbors pulled out firearms and began shooting at each other during an argument Tuesday night, according to Orlando police.

Police responded to Pinder Court at 4 p.m. after reports of shooting and spoke with a neighbor who said he was arguing with two men, Richardson Charles and Olken Charles, 28, when Olken Charles pulled an AR-15 from the trunk of his car and threatened him.

The neighbor said he went home and retrieved his own firearm and told Olken Charles to leave. Olken Charles responded by retrieving a pistol and pointing it at the neighbor. In fear that Olken Charles was going to shoot first, the neighbor said he fired several rounds at the suspect. Olken Charles returned fire, hitting the neighbor’s home several times, according tor the arrest report.

Charles told police he had to grab another firearm, because his AR-15 wasn’t working.

Police said they found at least seven spent casings at the scene. Richardson Charles told police he only grabbed his gun because the neighbor had armed himself, but never fired the weapon. Police said Richardson Charles had a valid concealed weapons permit and his weapon was returned after the investigation.

Olken Charles is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.
