Orlando Police station to become Magic entertainment complex?

Orlando Magic CEO says team wants to expand next to Amway Center

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Police Department headquarters in Downtown Orlando may soon be home to an Orlando Magic expansion.

Orlando Police Department wants to move to a new location near the Citrus Bowl and the Orlando Magic wants to use their old headquarters to expand, Magic officials tell Local 6.

OPD headquarters is currently located on Hughey Avenue, about one block from the Amway Center. OPD wants to build a new $40 million station.

"Our studies show that the potential property on which the police station is currently located could make the project ultimately feasible," said Alex Martins, CEO of Orlando Magic. "We look forward to responding to the city's potential request for purchase of that additional piece of land, should it become available."

The Magic would use the land to build a new entertainment complex next to the Amway Center.

"This potential project represents a possible $100 million investment by the Magic and its partners that would create jobs, and provide the possibilities of dining, hotel and entertainment options and continue the revitalization of Downtown Orlando and the Parramore neighborhood," said Martins.
