ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando officially has a new top cop Monday.
Earlier this month, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer appointed Orlando Rolón as the new Chief of Police of the Orlando Police Department.
Monday morning, the department held a change of command ceremony, a traditional ceremony that transitions the department’s responsibility from John Mina to Rolón.
Rolón, the 39th chief of police for the city, will oversee day-to-day operations of the department and serve as chief counsel to the mayor on matters of public safety.
Rolón has been a member of the Orlando Police Department for 25 years and has worked in nearly every aspect of the department.
Mina announced his retirement earlier this year and is running for Orange County sheriff.
