ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Ormond Beach police are asking the public to help them find a man they said may have tried to lure an 11-year-old boy away Friday outside a Dollar General.

Police were contacted by the boy's mother who said her son was approached by a man while she was inside the store checking out on North U.S. Highway 1 at 9 p.m.

The boy told police a white male approached him while he was waiting by his mother's car and asked if he would like to "come with him."

The boy did not comply and later told his mother about the incident.

Dollar General provided authorities with security video from the store during the time of the incident. The video shows a man, fitting the description of the man who spoke to the boy, making a purchase with cash and leaving the store, according to the police report.

Dollar General employees told police that they recognized the man as a regular customer who goes by "Jason," and he has not given them any problems in the past.

Due to the camera quality, police were unable to further identify the man, according to the report.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call the Ormond Beach Police Department at 386-677-0731 or the Crimestoppers hotline at 1-888-277-TIPS.
